Mgmt Config Developer

Location: Remote
Employment Type: Contract

We are looking for a self-directed, proficient individual to work on improving the mgmt config software. Most of the role can be done remotely, but occasional team or conference travel may be required. Some casual systems administration work to maintain our systems is also required. Candidate can work remotely, but must have overlap with 18:00 to 22:00 UTC unless agreed otherwise.

Responsibilities:

• Developing the mgmt software itself in golang
• Designing and implementing new features and fixing bugs
• Writing and maintaining tests and documentation
• Reviewing code and improving correctness and performance
• Collaborating with the upstream open-source project and community
• Managing servers, workstations, and laptops using the mgmt software
• Writing and extending modules in mcl for the mgmt software project
• Providing user support
• Supporting related mgmt development and systems administration tasks

Required skills and experience:

• Intermediate GNU+Linux skills in a .rpm based environment
• Intermediate proficiency with git
• Intermediate golang experience
• Intermediate golang concurrency programming experience
• Intermediate proficiency with bash
• Intermediate systems administration and/or systems engineering experience
• Intermediate virtualization experience using libvirt/kvm/qemu
• Intermediate proficiency with IPv4 networking
• Intermediate proficiency with systemd
• Internally motivated, autodidact
• Ability to learn to use the mgmt config tool
• Proficient communication in English (both written and spoken)
• University degree (not necessarily software-related) or relevant experience
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Growth mindset and motivated by constructive feedback
• Proven ability to work independently, manage schedules, and meet deadlines
